Querencia is a majestic residential compound high on a hill. Custom designed and thoughtfully constructed, it must be experienced first-hand to be fully appreciated. Winner of the AIA design award, and featured on HGTV’s “Dream Builders”, it combines grandeur and warmth in a comfortable, friendly compound.
The main building consists of three connected structures: a stand-alone owner’s or caretaker’s house, a flowing sculpture encompassing the great room, kitchen and library, and a bedroom wing with four large master suites. Each bedroom has its own fireplace and bathroom. Interior features include a large show kitchen as part of the great room, a massive rock fireplace, and an even more massive rock “water wall” and pond, and lovely open showers in the bedrooms. Each bedroom has a private balcony and view. The master bedroom has a Jacuzzi tub with a view, a shower with a view, and a bidet in the bathroom. The building curves and weaves its way around the hill, mostly below grade for energy efficiency and esthetic effect.
Views from Querencia are spectacular. Situated on top of a hill at 3000 feet of elevation, we can see the rugged foothills in all directions. To the west, we look over the San Joaquin valley to the hills of the Patterson Pass. To the east, the high Sierra is less than an hours drive away.
Querencia spreads itself over a secluded 40 acres on Sheep Ranch Road, apart from but convenient to the town of Murphys, often mentioned as the next Napa because of nearby vineyards and over 30 award-winning wineries.
Querencia is not a McMansion with square corners, conservative appearance, and “safe” styling. It is not for the unadventurous and unimaginative.
